Medical review policy
This page sets out what medical review means at S3 Sensitivity Science™ today. It is deliberately plain about the limits of our process, because a review claim that a reader can check and find false would do more damage than the honest version of what we do.
What review means here
Every article in The Sensitivity Journal is written and reviewed by a dentist registered with the General Dental Council. That dentist reads the article in full, corrects what is wrong, approves what is right, and publishes it under their own name and GDC registration number.
The by-line on each article reads "Written and reviewed by", and it says that because it is accurate. At the moment the author and the reviewer are the same clinician on every article we have published. We do not run a second, separate reviewer, and we do not describe ourselves as though we do.
Why we do it this way
Many health publishers separate the two roles, giving an article one named author and a different named reviewer. It is a good convention and we may adopt it. It is not, however, a requirement.
Google's guidance on helpful content asks whether content is written or reviewed by an expert, which is satisfied by either. Its search quality rater guidelines ask that medical content be produced by people with professional expertise and that it be edited, reviewed and kept up to date. Neither asks for two people.
So our position is this. A registered dentist writing in their own field, putting their name and registration number to the work and standing behind it, is a real standard, and it is the one we hold ourselves to now. A second reviewer is a strengthening we intend to make when we have the clinical capacity to make it properly, rather than a line we add to this page ahead of the practice.

Both are listed on our team page as S3 founding dentists. We name the relationship rather than leave you to find it, because a dentist's endorsement is worth something only if you know what sits behind it. Their registration numbers are published so you can verify them against the GDC register independently of us.
What a reviewer is accountable for
The reviewing dentist is responsible for the clinical accuracy of the article: that the explanation is sound, that the evidence supports what is said, and that nothing is overstated. Where they cannot support a claim, it comes out. A claim they have not approved does not publish.

What review does not mean
A reviewed article is general information about sensitive teeth. It is not a diagnosis, not a treatment plan, and not a substitute for seeing your own dentist. Sensitivity has causes that need an examination to identify, and some of them need treating. If your symptoms are new, worsening or severe, please book an appointment.
